School Transfer Program

The Syracuse City School District School Transfer Program provides parents and guardians the opportunity to request that their child receive a transfer to: his/her home school (the school to which a student is assigned based on his/her residence or home address); a school within his/her home school quadrant (the area in which they reside); join a sibling (brother or sister residing in the same household) who is enrolled in the school and will remain for at least one year; or a high school that offers a program of interest to the student.   
 
Parents or guardians of students entering grades K-7 are required to complete the School Transfer Application.  Students in 9^th through 12^th grade are required to complete the School Choice Transfer Form.
 
Please note that submission of a School Transfer Application or School Choice Transfer Form does not guarantee that a student will be transferred.  Prior to the approval of any school transfer request, it must be determined that there is space available in the school/program indicated on the application. 
 
The school transfer request period is May 1 through May 31 only. Therefore, the School Transfer Application and the School Choice Transfer Form are only available during this timeframe. The School Transfer Application and School Choice Transfer Form can be obtained by: (1) visiting the Central Registration Center (former Elmwood School) at 1728 South Avenue, (315) 435-4545; or (2) downloading the forms at www.syracusecityschools.com.
 
All applications must be hand-delivered directly to the Central Registration Center, 1728 South Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13207 or emailed with parent/guardian original signature to Registration@scsd.us by May 31.  Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.

New Student Registration Forms

The Syracuse City School District's Central Registration Center is set up to streamline the student registration process and make the system easier for parents and families to navigate. The center, located at 1728 South Avenue in the former Elmwood Elementary School, is open from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The phone number is 435-4545.

In addition, the SCSD has an online application process. This process includes the ability to create an application for a new student registration as well as the ability to update current student contact information via the Home Access Center. To access the online registration tool please go to https://enrollonline.scsd.us/.

To enroll your son/daughter in the Syracuse City School District for the first time, you can take proof of residency (utility bill, rent receipt, lease) to the Central Registration Center, call the CRC at 435-4545 to make an appointment or visit the online portal.

All families registering children for pre-K or kindergarten must provide a birth certificate, immunization record, proof of a physical withing the past year and proof of address to register.

The required documentation is not a pre-requisite for immediate enrollment of students experiencing homelessness. These documents are required, but will be accepted after the student is enrolled.

If your child has attended a school in another district, please bring their most recent report card from the previous school to registration. If you don't have a report card, please bring the phone number or other contact information from the previous school to help in obtaining his/her records from the previous school.

If a school is already filled to capacity in that particular grade the Pupil Services department will attempt to place your student in another school within the same quadrant. The pupil services department will inform you of the new school placement and your student’s registration packet will be forwarded to that school.
