The work of three Fowler High School students is currently in a competition through Verizon Wireless’ Education Empowerment Program to create and market a new mobile technology app.

Students Salaam Hargrove, Teresa Christie and Chanelle Harrison competed against other students in the Syracuse City School District to advance to the final round to compete with other students in Upstate New York.

Students from the Say Yes Zaira Meneses Classical Guitar Afterschool Program at McKinley-Brighton and Frazer schools performed at the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University during their spring concert. After school instructors Ken Meyer (Assistant Professor at Syracuse University’s CVPA-School of Music) and Say Yes Zaira Meneses Classical Guitar Program instructors, Steve Brew and Crystal Hinners were instrumental in creating this opportunity for the students.

Picture this: it is 1998 and Lejla Abadzic sits in a Refugee Assistance Program classroom in Syracuse, learning English through the Syracuse City School District’s Adult Education program. Originally from Bosnia, Lejla’s family escaped war by fleeing to Croatia and later Germany before settling in the United States. Ambitious and bright, this young woman quickly took her American opportunity to great heights: Lejla enrolled at Onondaga Community College just eight months after arriving in the U.S.

Henninger High School senior Tyler Sniffen has spent the last three years working to make his dream a reality.  He has studied hard, stayed in good physical shape, been a leader in school and worked to be the best he can be, every day.  On June 30, he will leave his family and his journey to fulfill that dream will begin. Tyler has been accepted as a cadet at West Point Military Academy. His basic training will begin eight days after he graduates from high school and he could not be happier.
