Artwork from students at Fowler High School will be displayed at the Mundy Library in January.

The students, who painted using acrylics, had the choice of doing a dragon skull still life or a vase with flowers and squash still life.  Ms. Dugger, their art teacher, said the assignment helps the students learn about composition and color theory.

Singers from Nottingham raised $250 at a Winter Concert at the school in early December. Members of the Concert Choir and the Vocal Jazz group performed at the show.

The money raised will be used to purchase new chairs for the groups’ music classroom. The students, who also performed at the Festival of Trees at the Everson Museum of Art, have raised enough money to purchase 11 chairs so far.

Students at the Institute of Technology received a visit from Kelly Miyahara from the JEOPARDY! Clue Crew in early December. Kelly demonstrated Classroom Jeopardy!, an affordable electronic version of the quiz show, to the students in teacher Diana Perez’s Spanish class.

School can teach a child many things, but an education is not complete without some hands-on experience outside the classroom.  A select group of students at Fowler High School are getting that experience through their work with the La Casita Afterschool Program for the Arts. The program gives them the opportunity to learn about art and to create their own masterpieces.

Dear Syracuse City School District Families,

I wanted to reach out to the Syracuse school community in the aftermath of the horrific tragedy that occurred in Connecticut on Friday. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Newtown community.

Students at Ed Smith created artwork for “Raindrops on the Windshield,’’ an art exhibit at The Warehouse. The students worked with Stephen Mahan, an art professor at Syracuse University who runs the Photography and Literacy (PAL) project and hosted a public viewing last week.

Syracuse City School District parents who have questions about their legal rights can get free confidential advice from one of five legal clinics sponsored by Say Yes to Education and the Onondaga County Bar Association.  The clinics are staffed by lawyers who can help with legal issues surrounding housing, public benefits, employment, divorce, custody and child support.

The Institute of Technology will host their Inaugural Alumni Day on Friday, January 11, 2013. All alumni are welcome to attend and visit the newly remodeled school.  Building Tours will be from 4:00PM-4:45PM followed by a social hour in the cafeteria with light refreshments from 4:45 PM-5:45.
