HW Smith K-8 School

Welcome back families to the final portion of this school year. The last two weeks in April are the times when our students in grades 3-8 take the New York State tests in English Language Arts and Math. Additionally, the students in grades 4 and 8 will be taking the New York State Science tests in late May, early June. Our ESL students will be taking the NYSESLAT test, which measures their growth in English, during the month of May. The after school Say Yes program ends for the year on May 24. We look forward to the Say Yes program during the summer for our students in grades K-5. More information about that will be sent home soon. There will be our Spring Concert in June that highlights the musical accomplishments of our students. Moving up days and achievement ceremonies will be held at the end of the school year. We are scheduled to relocate to the Levy School on Fellows and Westmoreland Aves. so our building can finally be renovated. Our school will move as a unit, with all of us able to be in the same building for the year of renovation. You will receive information about this as the details become firmed up. This is a very important time for all our students. This is the time of year when they have the opportunity to show how much they have learned. We need you to encourage them to do their homework, complete projects and do their personal best. The families and school staff must work together to help our students achieve high standards.
