LeMoyne Students Showcase Talents

Students from LeMoyne School showed off their intellectual gifts and talents at the school’s semi-annual Say Yes to Education (SYTE) Student Showcase. 

Nottingham Takes Top Prize at VEX Robotics Competition

Students from Nottingham High School took the top prize at the Central New York VEX Robotics competition at the Museum of Science and Technology in Syracuse.

Team “Chico-Bot’’ won the Excellence Award and earned the right to compete in April with teams from all over the world at the VEX Robotics Competition Worldwide Championship in Anaheim, Calif.  Bryan English, a technology teacher at Nottingham, won the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Nottingham Students Create Books for 3rd Graders

Students from Nottingham High School who participated in Mrs. Benedetto’s Cultural Voices class spent some time with their pen pals at Ed Smith – who are third-graders in Mrs. Fiacchi’s class.

SCSD Teams Earn Scholar Athlete Team Honors

Students on the Syracuse City School District’s combined Boys Volleyball and Syracuse West Boys and Girls Cross Country teams have earned New York State Scholar Athlete Team Awards for their excellent academic work.

A team must have a minimum average of 90 percent to apply for the award. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association uses the top eight averages to determine the team average for the scholastic honor.

ELMS Students, Staff Honored for Work at Meachem Field

The Syracuse City School District’s Expeditionary Learning Middle School has won the Syracuse Parks Conservancy’s annual Guardian Award. The school won for work they have done at Meachem Field and the Rand Tract.

Roberts School Wins Award for Breakfast Participation

Increased participation in the school breakfast program resulted in a special award for students at Roberts School in the Syracuse City School District.

The school earned $750 for increasing the number of students who participate in the school breakfast program. The money can be used for any health or wellness activities at the school.  

Hughes Students Attend Career Fair

Students from Hughes K-8 School spent some time interacting with employees of Crouse Hospital at a career fair at the school.

The event, which is in its second year, drew almost 200 students. They talked to the Crouse workers about the work they do, asking questions about their careers, and how they came to decide on their chosen professions.  Many of the Hughes’ students spoke about their plans for college and the hope that they would someday become doctors, nurses police officers, lawyers, chefs and more.

Students from the Syracuse City School District were recognized for their excellent artistic talents at the 2013 Scholastic Art Awards. The competition is open to junior and senior high school artists from throughout Central New York. More than 4,500 works of art were submitted for this year’s competition. A team of artists and teachers judged the work and local winners will go on to the National Scholastic Art Awards.

SCSD Boys Volleyball Earns Scholar Athlete Team Honors

Students on the Syracuse City School District’s combined Boys Volleyball team have earned a New York State Scholar Athlete Team Award for their excellent academic work.  This is the first time in SCSD program history that the team has been given this honor.

Members of the team come from the SCSD’s high schools. The team is coached by Beth Rourke. Bob Piraino is the junior varsity coach.
