Where Students And Learning Come First

A Brief History of the Nottingham Connection

In 1994, Grace Flusche (whose sons graduated in 1996 and 1997) was looking for a way to contribute to her sons' school. She realized that Nottingham High School had many very sucessful graduates who might be interested in supporting the school. She coordinated a couple of thoughtful meetings with alumni that included graduates from classes as far back 1940s.

Hetty Gingold, a Nottingham teacher and alumna, pointed out that "What alums want is to be connected with each other and the way to do it is to create a newsletter to connect them." Thus was the inspiration for the birth of The Nottingham Connection.

From then on Judy Gray, the librarian at Nottingham, played a key role. By connecting with reunion groups, she gradually built up the mailing list to 5,000 alums. Her death in 2006 was a huge loss.

Currently, the data base is managed by Marilyn Zaleon, '67 who also researches and edits material for the Nottingham Connection newsletter. The layout is provided by Adam Felleman, '87. The newsletter plays the connecting role but also draws in donations from alumni that provide fundng for the newsletter and for teacher grants each year.

Many alumni are still involved directly and indirectly with their alma mater. Through donations of alumni, staff, and parents, a new LED sign was erected so Events and News can be displayed electronically in the front of the school. Many thanks to all who donated. The newsletter, Nottingham connection, is sent out by mail once a year in April. Deadline for articles is Feb 15 each year. Please send items to nottalum@hotmail.com
